Title Research: Art of the title

Art of the Title. Art of the Title is a website that shows movie title sequences. I found this website through a Google search. I chose to use this website because it seemed like a reliable source for my research on titles in my genre. This title research will help me better understand my genre and what I need to do for my movie to fit into this genre of film. Researching films title scenes will help me complete my final task to my best ability. What did I see on this website? On this website, I saw a variety of film title scenes. There is a wide range of films to choose from to watch and study for my research. I was able to find many films to watch and study. I managed to find some great films in my genre. What did I learn from this website. This website taught me the order of movie titles. Although everyone may not realize, there is an specific way titles are supposed to be organized. Through careful analysis of these title scenes I discovered this order to the titles.

Title Research: Watch the Titles

Why am I on this website? I am on this website to research film titles and to give myself a better understanding when it comes to film titles. Watching other people's title scenes will demonstrate how mine should look. Seeing the different titles will show me what I should and shouldn't do for my title scene. Also if i have a better understanding of titles, it could potentially help me when taking my paper exam. Learning about how these scenes are supposed to be set up could help me with analyzing movies. What did I see on this website? On this website, I saw a whole bunch of different title scenes. From horror to comedy, these clips gave me great examples as to how a title scene should be organized. I saw great thriller title scene options. This is great because my genre is thriller. What did I learn from this website? I learned what order titles should be in. Although everyone may not realize, there is an order that titles should be in when creating a title scene. Watching these films helped me understand the general order of titles.

Genre of pitch

The genre of the pitch i ended up choosing is thriller. The reason i chose thriller is because I personally enjoy thrillers and thought it would be interesting to see what it's like from the creator's side rather than the viewers side. I also think that it would be easier to build the plot of a thriller when you can only have the first two minutes. Also, the pitch i chose wouldn't need anything that I don't have access to such as CGI or other advanced technological editing resources. My interest in this genre and pitch will motivate me to complete this final task to my best ability.

And the Winner is...

Out of the 3 ideas I pitched for the final task, I've managed to narrow it down to 2. The first pitch that made it this far is the one where "The main character is on the run from a creature but no one ever sees it except for the main character; even the audience doesn't see it." The reason it's a good pitch is: since no one can see the monster i don't have to make it look like anything. Also, the movie is just the main character running from the creature so it will make sense even though it's only the first 2 minutes. The reason it's not a good pitch is it may be hard to find somewhere to shoot in the area that I'm in. The area that I'm in is very busy and filled with people so finding a location to match the movie that doesn't have too many people may be a challenge.

The second pitch that made it this far is "A superhero movie where the superheros win the fight too easily because they didn't actually win the fight." One reason why this is a good pitch is it's not hard to realize when a superhero movie is a superhero movie. Also since it's only the first 2 minutes it could just be the fight and the script won't take too long to write. One reason why it's not good is that it might not be that easy for the villain to win the fight in the first 2 minutes of the movie. Also it may be hard to find someone with the skills necessary for acting in a superhero movie.

There's pros and cons to both pitches but the pitch I'm choosing for my film is: "The main character is on the run from a creature but no one ever sees it except for the main character; even the audience doesn't see it." The reason I chose this film is because I feel i am more capable of executing this idea in the was i want it to be executed. Another reason is I wouldn't need to find as many props because people will just need to have regular everyday items. Also the story line doesn't need to be too complicated since it's about a monster it just needs to be the main character running. In a superhero movie I'd have to find convincing superheros which may be hard. I'd also have to find costumes for the superheros.

Start of the Final Task

Hi I'm Kayla. I am a high school student in the USA part taking in the AICE Program offered at my school. I've always found filming and movie production interesting, which is why I felt that AICE Media was the perfect class for me. Learning about the filming industry along with the filming process and how to make a film myself has been an interesting and exciting learning experience. It's taught me that the creation of movies and films is more complicated than people may realize. There is a lot of time and effort put into creating them and it doesn't always turn out right even when done correctly. For this final task I will be working by myself. This school year has taught me that the best person to focus and rely on is myself. I distract myself too easily too often and don't always get everything that I need to do done.
Last semester, I actually learned many things. One thing that I'm excited to use for this project is my filming skills. With my knowledge of camera angles and movements, I can bring my ideas to life. I've also learned many interesting things about editing and I'm excited to put that knowledge to use. With my editing skills, I can really give my film the intended effect I want to have on my audience. I've also become better at storyboarding. With this skill, I can plan and draw out my film in so much detail that it's as if you're already watching the movie! This skill will help me in the execution of the film and make the process go faster since I won't have to constantly come up with ideas as I go along in the filming process.
Pitch: a Hollywood term used to describe a film in 25 words or less; pitches are usually 1 sentence. For this final task project i have 3 pitches. My 3 pitches are:

  1. The main character receives a mysterious box and has to figure out what it is to figure out how to save another world.
  2. The main character is on the run from a creature but no one ever sees it except for the main character; even the audience doesn't see it.
  3. A superhero movie where the superheros win the fight too easily because they didn't actually win the fight.
